GP 14

A GP 14 is Irelands most popular double handed dinghy. Although not historically a native boat to Howth Yacht Club, there have been glimpses of them training in the club, and more recently racing in our Frostbite dinghy series.

It’s a perfect boat for all as it is a very simple boat to rig and get out on the water without any complications and offers a pure sailing experience. It is a two-person boat where teamwork is essential, leading to great camaraderie between the helm and crew. The boats themselves come in a wooden build of a fibreglass build. For those that prefer a classic look and don’t mind doing a bit of TLC work on their boat, the wooden build is perfect for you. The fibreglass boats will lead towards slightly less maintenance work. Both are equally quick as each other.

GP14 Leinsters at Mullingar Sailing Club

There is a strong contingent of boats that travel to all the regional events around the country with an average turnout of around 30 with boats coming from all around the country. All the competitors in the fleet are super friendly and always willing to give a hand and share their knowledge. The fleet has all levels of ability and is split into bronze, silver and gold fleets so no matter your ability you’ll be sure to find close racing.
