21 Oct: An evenig with Karl Smith | Global Solo Challenge 2027

2026-10-21

From accountant, to superyacht captain, to preparing to take on the three great capes solo in a Class40.

Inspired by his father Peter's battle with Parkinson's disease, Irish sailor Karl Smith is preparing to sail more than 30,000 miles solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world in the 2027 Global Solo Challenge, with the aim of raising €1 million for Parkinson's research and support.

The HYC Cruising Group presents an evening with Karl as he shares the remarkable journey that has taken him from chartered accountant to professional sailor, superyacht captain, and now challenger for one of the toughest tests in offshore sailing.

Join us in the Asgard Room on 21 October at 19:30 to hear about his journey and preparations for this extraordinary challenge.
