One-design Tuesday

Another challenging Tuesday evening on the water, with initially light and variable north-easterly winds. Ten minutes before the warning signal, the breeze dropped away completely, shifting unpredictably before eventually settling at 340 degrees with a steady 5 knots.

The course was reset with a shortened opening beat of 850 metres. Following a 20-minute postponement, a fleet of 18 Puppeteer 22s and 4 Squibs got underway. Each class saw two boats over the line at the start, but all returned promptly and restarted correctly.

With the wind continuing to fade and shift, the race was shortened at the island mark after three legs of the course.

Featured image shows yachts approaching the finish at the island mark in a flat sea with almost no wind. Image below of a Squib being towed in by the committee boat as the wind had fallen away.
