Marina Update March 2025
Marina Dredging Proposals
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine ( DAFM ) received a positive decision from An Bord Pleanála upholding the Decision to Grant Permission from Fingal County Council. This effectively allows the dredging of Howth Harbour, including the HYC marina basin and fairways, to proceed. DAFM are working through the Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) licencing process at present and under normal timescales the EPA licence should be issued in Q2 2025.
DAFM are also working on the tender documents for the dredging project but the conditions that the EPA licence may impose must be incorporated into the tender package. Consequently the formal tender process is not likely to be completed until Q4 2025 with an earliest start of the dredging project in early 2026 although this could slip due to licencing delays and delays during the tender process.
The HYC Marina Development Committee and the Dredging Sub Committee are working with DAFM on the technical and commercial aspects of the project to ensure that the dredging of the HYC marina is carried out in a manner that is technically and commercially sustainable for the club.
In summary, even if the dredging contract was to commence in early 2026, the mobilization, enabling works and formation of the spoil area at the West Pier would result in there being no dredging activities until Q2 2026 at the earliest.
