Great Start to Sigma 33 Nationals as Racing Continues

The Sigma 33 One Design National Championships got off to a thrilling start on Thursday at Howth Yacht Club, with three highly competitive windward-leeward races sailed in fresh southwesterly conditions ranging from 16 to 22 knots.
After a short postponement to allow the breeze to settle, the fleet took to the water and delivered tight, tactical racing with incredibly close finishes — just seven seconds separated the top three boats, a testament to the quality and competitiveness of the fleet.
Local knowledge paid dividends as HYC’s Insider impressed with a commanding performance, taking three straight race wins to end the day at the top of the leaderboard.

Hot on their heels are the Scottish visitors on Close Encounters, who delivered a consistent day with 4th, 3rd, and 2nd place finishes to sit second overall. Lying third after Day 1 is Leaky Roof 2, another strong Scottish campaign, with a 5th, 2nd, and 5th to their name.
With more races scheduled over the coming days, everything is still to play for in this fiercely contested championship.
Racing continues with plenty of action expected as the fleet battles for national honours.
