Entries Open for the Gibney Classic on 26th July
Howth Yacht Club is pleased to announce that entries are open for the 2025 Gibney Classic, taking place on Saturday 26th July. This much-anticipated summer event has become a firm favourite among HYC members and visiting sailors alike, combining great racing with a welcoming shoreside atmosphere.
The Gibney Classic is open to all keelboat classes, and participation is encouraged from the full HYC racing fleet as well as visiting boats from neighbouring clubs. The event provides a great mid-summer opportunity to enjoy competitive sailing followed by the renowned hospitality of of long-standing event partner - Gibney’s of Malahide.

As in previous years, there will be an overall Gibney Classic prize, awarded to the standout performance of the day. Last year’s honours went to Demelza, following a strong showing in a highly competitive fleet.
The event is regularly and enthusiastically supported by boats from Malahide Yacht Club, and we look forward to welcoming our friends and neighbours from Malahide again this year. The organising committee also encourages members of the HYC Cruising Group to join the fun, whether under sail or simply to enjoy the atmosphere in Gibney’s post-race.
Looking ahead to this year’s event, Barry Gibney commented:
“It’s been brilliant to see the Gibney Classic become a regular fixture on the HYC calendar. We’re proud to support an event that brings sailors together for a great day’s racing and a proper celebration ashore. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone again this July.”

Post-race festivities will once again be a highlight, with live music, food, and a prizegiving reception hosted at Gibney's. The emphasis is on good sailing, fun ashore, and bringing the community together – all the hallmarks of what makes the Gibney Classic such a memorable event each year.
Online entry and Notice of Race are available online and we encourage skippers to register early to help with race planning and logistics.
Mark your calendars, gather your crew, and join us for what promises to be another fantastic day on the water and ashore.
