Commodore Update - February 2026
It’s hard to believe February is upon us, and I'm into my second year as your Commodore! I'm excited for the year ahead, and while the stormy weather may be persisting, we can at least enjoy the days getting a little longer.
Since the start of the new year, our club has been very busy both on and off the water. Sunday Dinghy Frostbites and the Tadg Riordan Motors sponsored Brass Monkeys series have all resumed and neither wind nor rain has dampened participants’ enthusiasm, evidenced by the great display of Sunday sails.
Some good news to cheer us up on the home front — our club was named Sports Inclusion Club of the Year at the Fingal Sports Awards, hosted by Fingal County Council. Also honoured on the night was Harry Gallagher, who received a Volunteer of the Year Award. These awards highlight the commitment and dedication of our members, staff and volunteers and we will continue to work hard to create access to our Club for people of all ages and abilities.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation for your continued support of our Clubhouse and Asgard Dining. The team has been listening carefully to your feedback and are working on exciting menu updates and hospitality events, so we encourage you to continue to join us and enjoy everything our Club has to offer.
With the new sailing season on the horizon, I encourage all boat owners to start getting their boats ready early and get their bookings in with the marina team for any crane requirements. And whether you’re racing, cruising, or just looking to learn — make sure to join the HYC Crew Talks, starting next Wednesday 3rd February. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re just starting your sailing journey or continuing a lifelong adventure on the water.
The Crew Talks are just the start of the recently launched 2026 training schedule. Again, there is something for everyone with keelboat, dinghy and powerboat courses, and a full schedule of junior courses - some of which are filling up fast, so get booking or contact the team with any questions.
Finally, we are constantly managing the financial side of running the club — from covering rising costs to developing courses and hosting events — so we kindly remind all members to keep their subscriptions up to date. You might also recall that we shared details of sponsorship opportunities at the club, so if you have any contacts or know of any parties who might be interested in partnering with us, please drop a line to marketing@hyc.ie.
Fair winds to all,
Kevin Monks
