Commodore Newsletter - May 2025
This is the time of the year that all our members have been waiting for. After the short grey days of winter, we can now look forward to enjoying the longer and brighter days of spring/summer with plenty of time to prepare for the sailing season ahead.
The Cruising Group kicked of their season with their annual breakfast attended by over 80 members. A raffle was held in aid of the RNLI and a considerable collection of €1,000 was made through the generous donation of prizes and sale of tickets.
It's great to see the Sailing into Wellness group using our facilities and boats and enjoying a week’s sailing.
On the racing front, many boats have been launched and are all set for racing. For the undecided, there is still plenty of time to get afloat.
The annual Lambay Races will be held over two days of the June Bank Holiday weekend - 31st May & 1st June - and a big turnout is expected. Considerable time and effort has been put into making this event a success and a big thank you to the Sailing Committee and the Class Captains.
I would like to encourage more boat owners to enter their boats into the various Lambay Races competitions. We have the facilites, enthusiastic race committees, racing judges, our new HYC support/committee vessel Northstar, and our mark boats. So don't delay and register before the Early Bird ends on 3rd May!
Our upcycled crane is back on station, and after considerable work and testing, it is fully operational and decked out in a stately Old International Harvester Red colour. Many thanks to Rosslare Marine who have brought new life to the crane. So no excuse not to launch and sign up for the racing now.
We have installed chargers for electric bicycles at the bike stands beside the Junior Room and inside the gate. This was grant aided by Fingal County Council under the Community Climate Action grant. Remember to bring your own charging cable if you wish to use this free service. Energy is supplied by our newly installed solar panels which have provided 2857kw to date - 15.5% of consumption.
The recent issue of annual licences for the marina has been completed with ten existing berth holders who applied to change boat and two members who requested moves facilitated. In 2025 so far, 18 new licences have been issued and there are now only nine members on the waiting list. It's great to see new boats on the marina and hopefully they will add to our racing and cruising events. The Marina Committee are to be commended for their efforts to facilitate our members needs.
Congratulations to our ten members who completed and passed the ICC (International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft).
See you on the water!
