gets New Look for 2009

The Sailing Committee in response to suggestions from sailors seeking finishes closer to the Island (Non engine entity specifically) have sought the input of Andy Sargent to design courses which will facilitate the wishes of sailor as an experiment for 2009.
The concept of this project was to review the current course design which in essence provides good upwind first leg from Committee Boat start and Upwind finish from last fixed mark.

For many years now, sailing up Howth Sound was lost following the introduction to Committee Boats starts mid week in 1996 and remains the attraction for Saturday Racing off the Pier.

In response to the Sailing Committee's request, all courses have been reviewed and re-designed so as to ensure courses will now finish between the Island mark and Howth Sound.

There is flexibility for the OOD to decide whether to have upwind finishes on the majority of courses and / or have sailors actually sailing up the Sound to Finishes similar to the Autumn League set up. Many of you will know that this adds a different dimension to sailing with both Tidal and Wind elements to be considered when approaching this area.

A New Tuesday Committee Boat Course Card has been designed in addition to the Wednesday / Saturday Committee Boat Course Card for the 2009 Sailing Season.

This new departure is an experiment and the Sailing Committee would welcome feedback on the new Tuesday Course Card throughout the year.
