Fireball Leinsters at HYC next July

Fireballs in action - Photo: Ob2 Photography

HYC is delighted to be hosting the 2010 Fireball Leinster Championships. This is the first high-performance dinghy event HYC has run in a considerable time. Our new hard standing area and improved slipway, along with the professional race management and excellent on-shore facilities should prove to be a hit with the Fireballs.

The services of our very own International Race Officer, David Lovegrove have been retained. Ex-Fireballer himself, David and his team will oversee the best Howth has to offer over the weekend of 17th and 18th July.

It is hoped that the success of the event will encourage the Fireball Class and other dinghy classes to return to Howth for future events and encourage the growth of dinghy sailing in our club.

  Rating Certificates for Cruiser Racing

Cruiser Class owners who plan to compete in Open Events this year should apply for IRC and ECHO rating certificates to the ISA now. See ISA Website

Note that boats who only receive an ECHO cert from the ISA just before an Open Event (such as the Lambay Races) carry a penalty until a performance history (3 - 4 races) is established.

  Laser Frostbite Video
Sunday 24th January

On Sunday 24th January Dave Quinn had a small video camera, loaned by Ric Morris, mounted on the bow of his Laser. Ric sent me the video and you can click below to view it.

The camera is called Gopro (www.goprocamera.com).
Its only 42mm x 60mm x 30mm and records about 2.5 hours of video in HD Digital. Last Sunday was very overcast so the picture is a bit dull. However on a brighter day it would give better pics.

Howth Lifeboat 'Thankyou' from Rupert Jeffares

On behalf of Howth Lifeboat thank you very much for making the collection at the Puppeteer Prizegiving Dinner last Friday night. The amount collected was a fantastic Euro Symbol653.24 a tribute to the generosity of those present on the night.

Again, a huge thank you, It would be great if other classes would follow your lead and make a similar collection at their next prizegiving dinner.
