HYC Hosts another recruitment day on Saturday 25th May |
This Saturday, 25th May, HYC will host the third day in a recent series of varied recruitment days. Utilising the ISA Sailfleet J80s, club volunteers will introduce dozens of potential new sailors to the sport and to our facilities.
Initiated by ICRA, this ongoing national campaign seeks to introduce new young people to sailing and will help provide both owners and their teams with a new source of crew and potential lifetime enthusiasts.

Members winter Art Class paintings on display in the club |
The clubhouse has been freshly decorated with many of the superb paintings by those members who took part in the winter Art Classes over the duller months of the year. These classes obviously attracted some very serious talent and we would invite you to come and see the array of art on display in the landing, lounge and dining room.

Laser Ulster Championship Carlingford Lough Yacht Club |
With an average wind speed of 25-28kts and gusts in excess of 35kts racing just wasn’t possible on the first day. A few local brave souls went sailing anyway and all came back with equipment damage. Four races were completed on Day 2 in widely varying conditions. The day started with a 0 to 10kts breeze to end up on the final race with gusts up to 25kts from the North West... It was an extremely challenging day for all concerned!

(L-R) Geoff Tait, Freya Macken, Simon Rattigan, Emma Geary, Darragh O'Connor, Lynn Reilly
Howth Yacht Club were among a strong Irish representation at this year's Wilson Trophy. Lynn Reilly, Simon Rattigan, Geoff Tait, Freya Macken, Daragh O'Connor and Emma Geary represented HYC in what is widely held as the best, and toughest team racing event in the world. The Royal St George, RCYC and Schull Youth teams made up the Irish contingent. Having missed out on the quarter finals by the narrowest of margins last year, HYC were keen to make it to the knock-out stages this year.

Cruisers Non Spinnaker Racing on Saturdays |
Hopefully after a very good week weather wise most boats are now in the water.
It is not to late to join the white sailing on Saturdays for a very nominal fee of 20. This a very relaxed racing series and an excellent way to get involved, train up crew or indeed bring out family members or friends for just a day out.
Afterwards we have a BBQ with a different menu every week with proceeds going to the Howth LIfeboat.
The BBQ is open to all on Saturdays and starts at approx 15.30 to 16:00 in the afternoons.
There are sixteen races included with 5 starred, so many other regattas can be entered.
We are looking for the support of as many boats as possible so that we can support our club and our own Howth lifeboat crews.
Everyone is welcome - the more the merrier!

Safari of Howth gets a Refit in Turkey |

3 newly decked Hallbergs
Safari celebrated her 30th year in 2012. The wooden deck had served well during those years but the wood had now got so thin that leaks were inevitable in spite of the very painstaking re-caulking job carried out by Ken and myself during 2009-2010. The paint work and the gelcoat in general looked tired and faded and in need of brightening up.
Having arrived in Kuasadasi in July of 2011, we quietly started researching the best boatyards. The choice was quite overwhelming but eventually we settled on 'Yachtworks' which have yards in both Didim and Turgutreis and I am glad to say that we are delighted with the work they have just carried out.
