Entries for the BMW Cruiser Nationals at Howth Yacht Club in two weeks' time have broken the 100 boats mark, a figure which also includes 66 boats and crews in Howth for the three-day event.

Howth Double Interest in 2012 Olympics |

Howth Yacht Club's interest in this year's Olympic Regatta at Weymouth has just doubled with the news that, in addition to David Burrows (who has already qualified in the Star Class as crew with Peter O'Leary), another HYC member Scott Flanigan has also qualified in the International 470 Class with his helm Ger Owens.

On April 28th Ken and I took a direct flight with Aerlingus from Dublin to Izmir and from there, with the help of A2B transfers, we took a coach to Kusadasi where Safari awaited us in the Setur marina.

With a third place in the opening race being his worst result in the six-race series, JP McCaldin in Jamais Encore from Lough Erne YC was an impressive winner of the Mediagasmic-sponsored J/24 Eastern Championships at Howth over the weekend.

The first of the keelboat club Saturday races began with a backdrop of clear blue skies and warmer than forcasted temperatures, allowing the crews on board Puppeteers, Howth Seventeens and the Non-Spinnaker Classes to get a flavour of what might this series is all about.

The forecast of fresh north-easterlies in a big lumpy sea was enough to dissuade several skippers from completing this year's Key Capital Private-sponsored Spring Warmers Series last Saturday but despite the smaller numbers, there was exciting action afloat and two closely contested races in the eight classes.

To All Cruiser Skippers Non Spinnaker Sailing Saturdays |
|
Dermot Skehan has been asked to head up non-spinnaker sailing on Saturdays for the coming year.
This will be open to ALL cruisers racing without spinnakers, not just the Wednesday White Sail Class.
Saturday sailing will consist of 16 races with 5 starred so that all regattas can be completed (at a very reasonable entry of 20 euro payable online @ hyc.ie or in the club office) for the season.
Every Saturday from 5th May to 1st September.
