We are delighted to launch our 2026 HYC Junior Schedule!  After a fantastic year with well over 300 junior sailors on the water improving their skills last year, the Junior Committee have been hard at work to create a schedule for 2026 that builds on this success.
 
ILCA coaching has continued throughout the winter and will continue right through until mid-March, giving our sailors a great opportunity to build skills, stay sharp, and keep racing momentum going during the off-season.
 
Looking ahead to Easter, we’re delighted to be running a range of junior courses across the club. Optimist coaching will take centre stage in the first week of the Easter break, leading directly into the Brassed Off Cup on Good Friday — a fantastic chance for our young sailors to put their training into practice in a fun and competitive event. We’re also excited to introduce a brand-new keelboat course delivered through French, designed to support students preparing for  French oral exams while developing their sailing skills.
 
The courses and schedule are all set for summer 2026 and include a new match racing/team racing course in June and the addition of coaching clinics for our more competitive sailors looking to move up the results sheets at away events. Coached Thursday Night Racing has proven hugely popular, and we’re pleased to confirm it will continue into 2026 and will be FREE for all sailors taking part in the junior courses.
 
Outside of our junior courses, we are continuing to develop and grow our coaching groups. Our optimist groups will be returning to training in March for the advanced group with the beginner group returning to training later in April. For our older keelboat sailors, the U20 keelboat squad is going from strength to strength and will start back training in the beginning of Spring.
 
A Junior Parent Information Evening will be held on 8th March. This event is open to all parents whether their child is an experienced sailor or completely new to the sport. On the night, you’ll meet our Training Development Officer and Junior Organiser and hear all about the 2026 junior programme, course pathways, boats, gear, and racing opportunities.  Be sure to save the date!
