HYC success at the US J24 East Coast Championships
28 October 2025

The 2025 US J24 East Coast Championships saw 34 boats line up over three days of varied breeze and sea-state in Annapolis, Maryland.
Joseph Murphy, Overseas Member and proud alumni of the HYC K25 Youth Squad, was joined onboard by fellow Irish sailor and co-owner of Headcase Ryan Glynn, alongside John Marshall and Chris and Monica Morgan.
Day 1 saw moderate breeze (12-16knots), relatively flat water and strong tide running underneath the Chesapeake Bridge. Rockstar scored two 2nd place finishes out of four races.
Day 2 initially started with an AP ashore due to light breeze ranging from 3-4 knots before finally filling in to 5-8 knots and racing got underway. Rockstar finished with a race win in race 6 of the series.
At the end of day 2, Rockstar sat 6th overall with the 3 boats ahead, all joint on points with only 2 points ahead. The 2nd place boat was only 5 points ahead. The goal had been set and the team got to work on a game plan. Murphy and team had the boats they needed to beat in their sights.

Day 3 started at 18-22 knots before increasing to 22 knots and gusting up to 27 knots. This heavier breeze saw a move from genoa to jib across the fleet. The swell built and made for stellar surfing downwind. Rockstar secured two more 2nd place finishes putting enough points between them and the surrounding boats to round out the US East Coast Championships in 2nd place overall.
