The last IEGS Society outing of 2009 was held on Friday 9th October at Sutton Golf Club. This is traditionally the turkey competition.
Those that teed off in the morning session had the advantage of dry conditions although it was quite blustery. The rain started around midday and the afternoon players had very wet conditions but those that persevered finished with no rain.
The winner was Heather Quinn with an excellent score of 33 points, followed closely by Andrew Knowles with 32. All the winners had to work very hard for their prizes.
The outing was followed by a very good dinner at Sutton, followed by the prizegiving at which the Captain, Aideen Jeffares, thanked Billy Quinn, Captain of Sutton Golf Club for ensuring the success of the outing; she also thanked her committee for all their assistance during the year.
The season's overall prizes were then presented - Golfer of the Year was won by Ian Baird, the Bob Fannin Trophy by Joe Grant and the Horn Trophy by Roddy Cooper. The singles matchplay was won by Conor Murphy and the mixed foursomes by Mary Cooper and John McDonald. Andrew Knowles won the Captain's Tankard. As has been traditional the IEGS Captain then presented a donation to Howth Lifeboat on behalf of the society which was accepted gratefully by Rupert Jeffares, Lifeboat Operations Manager, Howth.
This marks the end of another successful year for the Ireland's Eye Golfing Society.
