Group who took part in the outing
|
The second Ireland's Eye Golfing Society outing of 2009 was to Headford Golf Club in County Meath.
This was the annual "away" outing and the prize being played for was the Alan Hines Trophy, presented last year by Conor Murphy in memory of Alan, who was a stalwart of the Society prior to his untimely passing in 2007. He is fondly remembered by us all.
A group set off from Howth Yacht Club by coach and following refreshments on arrival at Headford, twenty three teed off on the new course.
The weather was better than forecast, although damp with occasional drizzly rain, there was no wind. Due to the previous rain the course was playing long. Most of those taking part enjoyed the challenge including the numerous water hazards, many balls were lost.
On return to the clubhouse an excellent meal was had, followed by the prizegiving. The trophy was presented by Olive Coyle to John McDonald who had an excellent score for the day, despite the wet ground, of 40 points. The other prizes were presented by the Captain, Aideen Jeffares. The group arrived back at Howth Yacht Club just before midnight following an excellent day.
The results were as follows:
| Overall |
| 1st | John McDonald (16) | 40 pts. |
| 2nd | Joe Grant (29) | 34 pts. |
| 3rd | Conor Murphy (17) | 30 pts. |
