HYC Training Pathway Flowchart >>
As an ISA recognised teaching centre Howth Yacht Club follow the structure laid down by our national governing body.

To take part within our Junior Program, children must become a club member, (Application Form for Junior Membership) - every aspect of their sailing can then be catered for from beginner right through to adult sailing.

Currently we provide training in a range of sailing boats.

The club use our own Picos for the Taste of Sailing Program, so there is no onus on parents to provide a boat for their child, this facility can offer both the child and parent an opportunity to see if the sport is for them without any large expense incurred.

Once a child is ready to move on to the more structured Start Sailing Program, an Optimist is required, parents are encouraged to provide a boat for their child, the club does have some optimists available for rent, and these boats are offered on a first come basis.

The Club currently have the use of Fire Fly's as a transition from the Optimist to the 420 classes or RS Feva class.

For more advanced courses we have two club Vagos which may also be rented on a first come basis.

It is recommended that sailors have an ISA log book for recording their sailing activities. Log books are available to purchase at the club Euro Symbol5 or from the Irish Sailing Organisation.
