Club Dinghy Racing - Sunday 21st April
Having been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions the previous weekend, this season's club dinghy racing got underway on Sunday morning in near perfect conditions. Eight Optimists, two Laser Radials and a 420 enjoyed two back-to-back races in a south-westerly breeze, which increased gradually from 9 knots in the first race to 16 knots in the second. As the morning wore on, the initial cloud gave way to bright sunshine making for very pleasant sailing conditions.
Daniel Hopkins took two bullets in the Optimist class, with Tim Farrelly taking second in both races, and Jamie McMahon and Shane O'Brian swopping third & fourth places. In the Sundry class, Aoife Hopkins, sailing a Laser Radial, survived a strong challenge from Troy Hopkins, also sailing a Laser Radial, to take victory in both races.
As the various winter activities draw to a close over the coming weeks, we look forward to a large increase in the numbers coming out to race.
